SGF Lawal rejects Senate invitation to appear before the house (photo)

- Babachir Lawal has said he will not appear before Senate

- He challenged his summon in court

- This is the second time the Senate has invited him to appear over corruption-related charges

The Senate is currently facing serious threat to its authority as Babchir Lawal has written that he would not be appearing before it even though he has been summon.

The secretary to the government of the federation was invited by the Senate ad hoc Committee on Humanitarian Crisis in the North-East investigating allegations of misappropriation of funds for rehabilitation of the region after he was indicted of corruption-related

Lawal had earlier appeared before the Senate to defend how he handled the rehabilitation f the north east although the presidency had written to the Senate that he was not given fair hearing.

The Senate in another letter dated March 15 asked the secretary to the government of the federation to appear on Thursday, March 23 but according to Vanguard, Lawal in a letter to the Chairman of the ad hoc committee, Sen. Shehu Sani, said he was challenging the invitation in court.

He wrote: “I wish to kindly request that you draw the attention of the other members of the committee that I will not be able to appear before the committee primarily because I have gone to court to challenge the invitation among others.

“Please find attached the court documents.”

Meanwhile. The Senate declared Nigeria Customs Service boss Col. Hameed Ali (rtd.) unfit to hold a public office and ultimately demanded his resignation as Customs boss.

The senate resolved that Ali should resign his post after he again failed to appear before the lawmakers as directed by the upper house of legislature on Thursday, March 16.
