$9m allegedly recovered from the home of the Chief Justice of Nigeria(photo)

There seems to be serious panic in the judiciary after an alleged major revelation by the Department of State Services (DSS) concerning the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen.

Sahara Reporters is confirming that the DSS revealed that its men discovered the sum of $9 million from Onnoghen's apartment.

The report did not however state if this just happened or if it was part of the raid carried out by the DSS on some judges some months ago.

Justice Onnoghen was sworn-in to office by the government after an initial delay that almost threw the judiciary into chaose.

Top government officials hinted back then that the delay was as a result of the fight against corruption in the judiciary which got some apartments of judges raided and huge sums allegedly recovered.

The National Judicial Council (NJC) recently recalled some of the judges allegedly indicted for corruption.

This action by the NJC angered the presidency which promised to press further charges against the affected judges.

Currently, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed corruption charges against two Federal High Court judges recalled recently by the NJC.

Last week, the NJC announced the recall of six out of eight judges accused of corruption by the federal government.
