The Ijaw Youth Congress (IYC) has threatened to occupy the National Assembly, alleging that the legislators were harassing former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The group made this known in a statement signed by its President, Oweilaemi Perestubor in Asaba, Delta state, Guardian reports.
NAIJ.com reports that the group on Wednesday, July 12, sent a note of warning to the Assembly saying that “NASS should stop the embarrassment of the former president by insisting that he should appear before an adhoc committee, or we will move into the Assembly.”
Perestubor said:“We will not allow anybody to intimidate us. This is another ploy to intimidate the Ijaw people.
‘’If the National Assembly insists Goodluck Jonathan must come, we will occupy it.
“Due process should be followed if the former president should be invited at all, he is not just an ordinary man that will be invited with impunity.
‘’The group also restated its calls for a genuine restructuring of the nation in a manner that allows all the federating states have equal opportunity to develop, live and make decisions.
“This country must be restructured, we must sit down together as a people to peacefully agree that what belongs to the Ijaw people must be given to them.
The statement also noted that it is ridiculous for Nigeria to belittle the former president.
Meanwhile, it had been reported that Patience Jonathan raised an alarm over what she described as ill-treatment by the Ibrahim Magu-led Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on her and members of her family.
The wife of former president, Goodluck Jonathan, claimed Magu wrote a letter to the British High Commission asking them not to issue her visa.
