-Students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology have invented a solar-powered car
-The 4x4 car was invented in partnership with the Technical University of Munich
-The vehicle was unveiled during the school’s recent Graduation Ceremony which was attended by the Asantehene
The Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Physics of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology have come together to invent the school's first ever environmentally-friendly vehicle.
The vehicle which is going to be powered by the sun is seen as a massive creation and innovation in West Africa since most cars in the region run on petrol, diesel or LPG.
The invention was revealed at the graduation ceremony of students from the school. The 4x4 vehicle was created with collaboration from the Technical University of Munich.
Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, the Vice-Chancellor of the University revealed that the car was being test-driven with the objective of fine-tuning it to an internationally accepted standard. He added that the recent creation represented their response to living up to the mandate of leading development in innovative technologies.
The two-seater vehicle which takes the form of a Pick-up truck was taken on an inaugural test drive by the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II who also doubles as the University’s Chancellor.
The monarch drove the invention round a small field and was applauded by the graduating students and guests who were present at the ceremony. One of the guests at the ceremony also got the chance to take the car for a spin.
The Asantehene then called on the government to help support the innovation to push for more of its kind to be created.
The invention has been seen as a breakthrough judging by the extent at which the emission of smoke that is generated by fuel-propelled vehicles are harmful to the environment and to human health.
If there happens to be a mass production of the new vehicle, importation of refined fuel for industrial use in vehicles will be reduced.
Africans are just extremely talented, we have fashion, technology, arts and so many.
