The Nigerian government has promised to help The Gambia recovered the national wealth allegedly stolen by the former president, Yahya Jammeh.

Jammeh, who was ousted with the help of the Nigerian government and other African leader, was accused of stealing about $50 million from the nation's coffers.

The Nigerian ambassador to The Gambia, Oluwasegun Ibidapo-Obe, who made the promise said Nigeria will support The Gambia in recovering its assets.

SMBC News reports that the World Bank has also offered to help The Gambia to reach for its wealth stolen by the ex-leader. The country has launched a bid to seize some of Jammeh’s known international assets, including a $3.5 million mansion outside the U.S. capital.

Meanwhile, it was previously reported that Abubakar Malami, the attorney general of federation and minister of justice, explained that negotiation with Switzerland on the return of $321 million recovered from the late Abacha family had been concluded.

Malami on Thursday, October 26, said Nigeria had recently recovered the sum of eighty-five million US dollars from the controversial Malabu Restrained Funds from United Kingdom.

The AGF stated this in his opening remarks at the Pre-Global Forum on Asset Recovery consultative meeting with the theme: Building an Ending Framework for Asset Recovery in Nigeria.
