- An army officer has been killed in her home and her body burnt by a gang of thieves

- Her security guard has been arrested along with 8 others in connection to the crime

- The gang had reportedly invaded the deceased home to rob her of her personal properties before killing her

The Nigeria Police Force over the weekend arrested a security guard and his gang arrested a security guard and his gang for the alleged murder of his employer, Major Afisatu Ajuya , at the Upper Ugbor area of GRA, Benin city, Edo state.

The deceased, who was serving in one of the South-South states, had returned from a journey on Saturday evening when she was received by her guard who helped her to carry her luggage in.

The guard allegedly descended on Ajuya the moment he entered the house, before the arrival of his other gang members who are about 8 in number.

She was reportedly stabbed before the suspects later took their victim into her apartment where they strangled her. The suspects then reportedly proceed to pour petrol on their victim and set her ablaze after carting away three laptops, cash and jewelry.

Punch reports that the guard later raised an alarm, claiming that his boss had been involved in a fire incident in which she was burnt to death.

Some of the residents who responded to the alert, however, said while efforts were on to move the corpse to a mortuary in an ambulance, the guard was spotted moving the stolen items into an uncompleted building in the area.

Policemen from the Ugbor division were said to have later arrived at the scene and arrested the guard and some of his accomplices.

A resident of the area who begged to be anonymous said: “A woman called me and said the woman died in her bedroom after her house got burnt. So, we went there and saw the woman’s corpse on the ground. It was later that other neighbours told us that she was stabbed and that it was planned by her guard, who connived with other Hausa guards, who no longer work in the area.

“They stabbed her and stole three laptops. I think they collected N600,000 from her because she begged them with money. They took her jewelry and a wristwatch. After killing her, they set the house ablaze.

“Initially, some people thought that the fire was caused by lit cigarettes, but when an ambulance was about to take the corpse away, a neighbour, who was suspicious of the circumstances surrounding her death, saw the guard throwing some of her belongings over the fence into an uncompleted building. People gave him a chase and caught him.”

It was previously reported that the Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday, January 24, paraded suspected criminals operating along the Minna-Bida-Birnin Gwari-Funtua and Tegina-Kaduna highways.

The criminals were apprehended following the efforts of the personnel of Niger state police command under the supervision of the commissioner of police, Niger state, to restore law and order in the communities mentioned and arrest the perpetrators.
